The routine at camp is rather easy to fall into. Up at around 05h00 to enjoy the morning river view, still in the dark, from our tent. A little while later the hot water arrives for the tea/coffee. Breakfast is served at 06h00. It is a full house breakfast that is served. Eggs are cooked over a brazier next to the serving table.

Our preference is an early start, walk in the bush. Thus, we are on the trail by about 06h40. The guide and scout take us off the roads and into the veld. Early morning walks stay clear of the river area to avoid returning hippos. The guides are extremely helpful in sharing knowledge about animals, birds, plants and the night skies.

Zambian law dictates that walks must be accompanied by the guide and armed scout and a tail sweeper who keeps up the rear. The veld is difficult at times to walk on. Hard baked cotton soil clay with numerous crevices, hippo and elephant holes and uneven terrain keep you focused on your footing. The guides are conservative in their approach and any danger is avoided. This makes for a relaxed time. Tea is served at some stage and normally next to the river, now safer to go to.

A wide variety of birds and animals were spotted and it is always special to see these in a natural environment.

Hello again from our work desks 😀 awesome pics from Day 12.

That Hippo looks like he is checking us out, not visa versa!

Love that little guy peeping through the tree trunk 😆

Hopefully you will have time later to add some comments/info to each pic.

Was that a Malachite Kingfisher? Or ?
